🌱 Growing Seasons:
Egypt grows potatoes in three distinct seasons, making it one of the most important potato-producing countries in the region.
Summer Season:
Planting Time: December to mid-January
Harvest: April to May
Mostly for local consumption
Nili (Fall) Season:
Planting Time: August to early September
Harvest: November to December
Requires storage of seed potatoes from the previous harvest
Winter (Export) Season:
Planting Time: Mid-January to February
Harvest: May to June
Mainly for export purposes (especially to the EU and Gulf countries)
🌾 Soil Requirements:
Well-drained sandy loam or loamy soil
Rich in organic matter
pH between 5.5 and 6.5
Avoid saline or compacted soils
💧 Irrigation:
Regular and even watering is critical
Avoid over-irrigation to prevent rot and fungal diseases
🛡️ Pest & Disease Management:
Monitor for late blight, early blight, and aphids
Use certified seed potatoes to reduce the risk of disease transmission
📦 Storage:
Store in cool, dark, and well-ventilated areas
Ideal temperature: 4–10°C for table potatoes
