Onion Planting Season in Egypt
Planting Time:
Onion is a cool-season crop and can be planted in two main seasons in Egypt:
🌱 Seed Planting (for transplanting later):
Mid-August to September
Seeds are sown in seedbeds, and seedlings are later transplanted to the field.
🌿 Transplanting Time:
November to early January
Seedlings aged around 45–60 days are transplanted during this period.
🌾 Direct Seeding (Rainfed or Mechanized Farms):
October to November
Seeds are directly sown in the field, especially in large-scale commercial farming.
Soil Preparation:
Well-drained, fertile loamy soil with good organic matter is preferred. Avoid water-logging and ensure proper irrigation.
Harvest Time:
Onions are usually ready to harvest 4 to 5 months after transplanting, typically between March and May depending on the region and planting date.
